This is Not a How-to Book
Anyone interested in purchasing an existing B&B or small family resort, or starting a new one, will benefit by reading I'm Living Your Dream Life, a memoir telling the story of not only why we left the city to find our own version of Walden Pond, but also how we made it work. If you want a how-to book, I suggest the book I used, So, You Want to be an Innkeeper, which I found very helpful in putting together our business plan, and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Running a Bed and Breakfast is also very good. Contrary to some reports of the content of Dream Life, I promise you, it doesn't spend all 180 pages whining and complaining. Instead it paints a very realistic picture of both the (mostly) positive and occasional negative aspects of this lifestyle. I've lost count of the number of fellow business owners I've heard from since this book was published, who told me how much they related to our story. Meanwhile, I'm happy to be a resource for those interested in creating their own dream lives in this field.
